New book and in great shape when it arrived. Was exactly what was needed for the course that my nephew needed to take.

This is a good curriculm for a DUII specific course. There is a lot of information that is outdated, but it is easy enough to update and if it doesn't pertain, then it is easy also to leave out of services. Great resource and informational on DUII programs.

Am using it as a resource with a court-ordered client; some good material.

This book was "required" for a course, however after the course was completed I realized that this book was not even needed. Although it does present good information for teaching strategies to those who have been convicted of driving under the influence, I did not get out of this book what I expected.

Driving With Care is an excellent program. The Provider's Guide is a must for those delivering the material.The book arrived on time and in mint condition.

This book was one of the best resources I used (and I used a lot of them) in my LSAT prep. After reading this book and doing the practice suggested in the book, I took the LSAT in June 2015 and only missed four LR questions. I think this book is directly responsible for that.

Good for the price. I took Kaplan's test prep course but supplemented with the Manhattan trio. The books are not without flaws-there are errors in the practice questions, for instance, A and C could be the same exact answer choice, but they were great refreshers and really break down each type of question in depth, also cementing the learning with timed practice sessions. I wouldn't suggest studying solely with these books, but they were helpful and provided more practice sections.

USE THESE BOOKS for your LSAT preparation. I pretty much wasted money on the Bibles, the Trainer, and other books.Manhattan along with a ton of prep tests will prepare you!

The most underrated logical reasoning prep-book. Teaches you how to think for this section and questions are put into 4 main categories, making it much more streamlined than the popular Powerscore book.

Worth the money, any different perspectives you can get on the material has potential to make something click.

This first novel is a real page-turner! Set in the mountains of southwest Virginia in the late 50s-early 60s, it’s told in the voice of a young man remembering his adolescence during a simpler time, remembered now for its racial strife. Stony, the narrator, is in fifth grade in 1954, the year of the Supreme Court decision to integrate public schools (Brown vs. Board of Education). I remember this well - I was finishing my freshman year in high school, which turned out to be my last year in public school since our Virginia county decided to close its public schools and open a private academy for whites only. My county was south of Richmond but I know the mountain counties fairly well and find this novel to be entirely true to its location and its time.A. D. Hopkins has succeeded not only in conveying a historical time and place, but in creating believable, involving characters whose personalities come to life in Stony’s account. You like some, you love some, you detest others, but all are full of life. Yes, this is a growing-up novel in many ways but the focus is not on Stony and his growth process, it’s on all the people involved in events in this small town - the sheriff, the deputies, Stony and his pals Jack and Roosevelt, the girls that he lusts after and also those that he befriends. It’s also about the folks who join the Klan and those who abhor the Klan. It’s about racist attitudes, about how they sometimes change and they sometimes go really bad. Stony is a fundamentally good kid who gets into a lot of fights — due to hotheadedness, due to an overactive sense of honor which is very typical of Virginia, and sometimes due to just plain youthful dumbness. It’s fascinating to watch him change.This novel does not telegraph its punches. It can seem at times as though it’s a picaresque recounting of the adventures of Stony and Jack - but there’s a very strong plot thread running throughout and their escapades do not fundamentally distract from this. There’s a lot of info about guns here - that might turn some off but again it’s very typical of this time and place, that boys and men were quite familiar with firearms and learned young how to use them. And without adding spoilers, I’ll say that this is not a book that focuses on blood and thunder. The emphasis is humanity, and how human beings of all sorts of beliefs get in trouble and sometimes get out of it.In short, a great read. I had trouble putting it down. My only criticism would be that sometimes there was a bit too much description in earlier chapters - I wonder how someone in their thirties or forties would remember exactly what two girls were wearing in class on the day Jack Newcomb arrived - but this is a small matter. Stony’s voice gets more and more real and immediate as the novel progresses.In the divided political climate of 2019, it seems to me that everyone, no matter their political views, would enjoy and benefit from reading this book. If you are a city type, and have no idea how small towns functioned back in those days, their politics, their social strata, you’ll learn a lot from this. No matter what you think about gun control, you’ll learn from the role they play here why so many have fought so hard to be able to keep them — and yes, the dangers they have always posed in society. You’ll get a lot of respect for honest lawmen and some insight into how local politicians, playing the political game, have to operate in a small place to be able to get anything done against the fixers of that time. Fixers aren’t new, folks.But it’ll be a fun ride! Highly recommended. I look for more from A. D. Hopkins!

This book was actioned packed much like a choose your own adventure book. It was hard to put it down until complete. Glad someone wrote a book about teenage adventures and addressed race. This book show that children and adults can be agents of social change if they choose to act ethically.

September 1959 in the small town of Early, Virginia. "Stony" Shelor is almost seventeen and just starting his junior year of High School. Enter new kid Jack Newcomb who models himself after a beatnik character from the TV show Peter Gunn. The two boys, both a bit nonconformist, become fast friends.Jack's decision that they should become private detectives leads to a lot of time spent around the local police station learning the trade. The cops couldn't be happier having two volunteers to do some of the nonessential duties (like cleaning & filing) and the two boys become sort of like mascots to them.It's all kind of endearing in a way but Early, Virginia isn't Andy Griffith's Mayberry so when trouble comes... and it does... there's more to it than good ol' wholesome fun.The Boys Who Woke Up Early is a coming of age story set in a time when the world (at least The United States) was having some "coming of age" issues of its own. While the first half of the book deals with the boys' Hardy Boy-esque adventures the second half gets deeper into the social changes affecting their world (mostly racism and associated issues).I thought this was a pretty good book. There's a certain suspension of disbelief required at times as it goes from silly to serious and makes you question how anyone could let these boys get into these kinds of situations but, then again, it was a different time.While the story is about teenagers in 1959 and the early 1960s the author strives to present a sense of realism. Meaning there are racial slurs, some cursing, and one or two cringe worthy moments when seen from a modern perspective. I wouldn't call it salacious or gratuitous but it's there.Bottom line: The Boys Who Woke Up Early is a good read. The time is 1959 and the place is rural West Virginia. Stony, the main character is starting his junior year in high school. His main concerns are girls and trying to stay out of trouble and girls. He isn't part of the cool group so when a new student moves to town, Stony and Jack quickly become friends. As friends they have more than an normal friendship. Jack wants to be a private eye so he and Stony start doing volunteer work at the local sheriff's department and end up trying to help law enforcement solve a robbery case. Their adventures include interactions with the people in the hallows who run the local still and a run in with the local KKK. As they grow up, will their adventures during this year change their perception about current life especially the views on racism.This is a well written novel about life in the late 50s when America is starting to change their views on segregation and violence. It's a coming of age time for Stony who has to form his own views about what he sees around him. I enjoyed the main character of Stony who changed significantly in the novel as he began to notice more about life around him.I read an advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

McPherson's "Battle Cry" is arguably the best single-volume account of the Civil War. Nearly 30 years since its initial publication by Oxford, this book is still being used at the university level to educate students about the Civil War. McPherson not only wrote a masterful narrative, he also sourced the text impeccably. Further, I disagree with some previous reviews that the writer has a political bias or agenda, if you will. As a Civil War historian, I can confidently state that writing in a neutral voice about this period is one of the most difficult challenges an author faces. McPherson gives ample time to both "sides" of the cause and puts forth well-documented facts. Those who dispute his objectivity have ample resources, provided through detailed footnotes and an extensive bibliography, to research the author's claims.If you are just becoming interested in the Civil War or seeking to extend your knowledge, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. From novices to academics, this is the one book that must be on your shelf.

I have read at least 50 books about the Civil War. The Battle Cry of Freedom was the one book that tied everything together as to why we were at war in the first place. It is not just about the war itself but about those times in America where our attitudes were. The book ties in everything about the those times and the war itself and how one issue or battled lead to political issues that had a huge impact on decision. It really shows how strong Abraham Lincoln was in his determination not to give in and to preserve one nation. If you could read only one book about this troubling time in our country, this would be the book.

This is a very good one-volume history of the Civil War. It is much more than a military history, an endless litany of battles and military campaigns and strategy. Although it is partly a military history, it is also a social, political, economic, and diplomatic history of the Civil War period. It is a scholarly history; McPherson documents his conclusions, opinions, and quotes with voluminous endnotes. (Since this was an e-reader edition, it is rather effortless to tap on the superscripted numeral and view the endnote.)McPherson begins his history well before the outbreak of hostilities in 1861. The first chapter, “The United States at Midcentury,” takes a look at American society and politics in the 1850s. The American South “dominated the world market” for cotton. The industrial revolution was changing society, primarily in the North, as millions moved from farms to urban centers to work in factories. A religious awakening was sweeping the North generating moral and cultural reform movements, especially a push for the abolition of slavery, which would put the northern states on a collision course with the South. In the next few chapters, the author covers political events that were shaking the country in the turbulent 1850s. The Mexican War brought new territories into the United States, which exacerbated the ongoing debate over whether new states should be admitted to the union as slave states or free states. Pro-slavery and free-soil settlers were fighting and killing each other over slavery in the Kansas territory during the 1850s. And a new political party, the Republicans, arrived on the American scene and elected an unlikely western-born man named Abraham Lincoln as their candidate in the 1860 presidential elections. And to raise the stakes in this crucial election Lincoln was known to be an anti-slavery man.It is not until the very end of chapter 8, when South Carolina starts the Civil War on April 12, 1861, by firing on the federal fort at the entrance to Charleston harbor, Fort Sumter. The first eight chapters of this history are dedicated to the all-important task of laying the groundwork for an understanding of the events and ideas that led to this tragic conflict.Even for those very familiar with the battles that swept over the American landscape during the next four years, there is much to be learned from McPherson’s narrative. The author skillfully weaves into the war stories the social, political, and cultural context for these events. How did the war affect the people of the South where most of the battles were fought? How did they survive when their men went off to fight, when the value of their currency turned to almost nothing, when there was nothing in the stores to buy with their worthless money, when their slaves that did the hard work of growing their cotton and food crops ran away to follow the liberating Yankee army? And in the North, how did the people deal with the forced conscription that pulled young men from their homes, farms, and families? Many of these conscripts were recent immigrants. How did they cope with the demand that they risk their lives to save their new country? McPherson investigates all of these concerns in Battle Cry.This long book (almost 1,000 pages) pulls the reader into its narrative almost immediately. I found it hard to put down. Even though we all know how the war turned out, surely its participants did not. Those who were certain of triumph at the beginning (Jefferson Davis and seemingly most of the secessionists) turned out to be wrong. Those who felt a sense of doom and wondered if even God had deserted them (especially, at times, Abraham Lincoln) often ended in triumph. The reader, even viewing these events in retrospect, becomes engaged with the drama and feels empathy for the emotions of the actors is this great national tragedy.Note: I read this book on a Kindle. The battle maps in the Kindle edition are hard to read and of little use on my paperwhite Kindle, but show up clearly on a Kindle Fire.

I am a military historian and my opinion is that Dr. McPherson has written the definitive encompassing Civil War historical work. "The Battle Cry of Freedom" (supplemented with some of Dr. McPherson's related books like "The Atlas of the Civil War," and others) is second-to-none. I mean no disrespect what-so-ever to Shelby Foote's "The Civil War." Foote's works speak for themselves, no question. But because Battle Cry is written in such an engaging style that reads like a novel while extensively relating and documenting the historical intricacies of the times was, for me, a pleasure to read and study. I highly recommend this text for anyone, scholar or layman, who is looking for a descriptive and informed one-volume history of this tragic time in America's history.

I got the book for Kindle in order to be able to see the size font I wanted, and to start a library that was easy to store. BUT what use is a book you can not read? The type is fine. The font I can change in that. But much of the book references pictures or charts or appendixes that appear to have been small photos, that will not increase in size and can NOT be seen. The writing on and in and under these items is too small to see. Enlarging the entire screen on a computer screen doesn't help. Those areas remain tiny AND blurry!

I am dumb when it comes to things like this type of book but it explains things and it shows you in a way that you can learn from it. I find it a good book for references and to learn.

With the kindle version, the text is fine, but the charts, diagrams, and other pictures are very difficult to see

This is the book we all wished for when we started building electronics. Simon Monk is covering the basics in a easy to understand fashion. He is not stuck in the past, but introduce you elegantly to the Arduino and raspberry Pi world. A highly recommended book!

The author writes very clearly and although in a previous life I had considerable experience with electronics, I still found it very useful. It has a "seat of the pants" quality to it which makes it very readable and agrees with my own past work experience. I recommend it.

As Old retired electrician playing with electronics as a hobby this is a great book. Even for those learning. I want to get more books like this one.

Teaches by doing. Needs a little more theory or supporting web site. Projects were fun. Overall worth the effort to read and get supporting parts.

Projects and general information are bringing newer micro computers together with "found" objects in my project boxes and discard pile. Finally a book that makes the creative juices flow, even for a old tinker'er (65 years of tinkering). I guess have not seen it all. Pictures are great and writing style works for all experience levels without scaring off the novice or old hacker. One of the best I've seen.

The class I took with this book was written by the author, Dr. Geoffrey Cooper himself. Before I say anything else about the book, Dr. Cooper is a super smart guy. He discovered the ras oncogene, which you'll learn about in this book! (He is also a notable humble guy, as he doesn't even mention himself in the book, while he gives you tons of stuff on other scientists who discovered great things in cell biology, and even got Nobel prizes).This book is a great book for an undergraduate class in cell biology. The diagrams are all well-drawn, and the book explains some complex concepts/cascades quite well. Studying the diagrams and illustrations is very very helpful when studying.Additionally, the text is pretty comfortable to read. The text isn't crammed in together, and everything is organized pretty well (you usually don't have to turn the page to see a diagram the text refers to).I kept this book after the class, as it is a great reference, and easy to understand. It's well-written, concise, and interesting.Be thankful if your class uses this book. You'll not only learn about cell biology, but a lot about science in general.GREAT FOR PRE-MED STUDENTS!

Best cell biology book I've ever read, and I've used a couple. Easier to read than most, which is nice, considering I'm using it for medical school and have too much to read anyway.

It was the book I wanted

The product itself was delivered in perfect condition, brand new. I'm not a fan of the book in general though. Throughout my semester with this book my professor was constantly having to correct mistakes he found in the book. The flow of the information in book is decent, the diagrams can leave a little to be desired. I have had several textbooks that are very interesting and packed with information, this one just doesn't quite deliver. I highly recommend any faculty considering using the book for a class carefully review the book before selecting it. My professor chose it on a whim and was not impressed with the book.

Great book

The book itself is great--a classic in pretty good shape. It does have a pretty strong mold sell though. Something that probably should have been disclosed.

The climbs in Washington and California are known to be delicious and wonderful experiences. I can't speak to the others but themaps, writing and instructions are clear if a little data. Inspiring - this book is a must for anyone who loves to technically mountain climb and experience some of the best nature in North America. Mt. Rainier comes with bears. (we had to wait an hour for the bear to get off the trail at Sunrise), Mt. Stuart has adorable Mt. Goats and some sort of rodents that really like salt.

This book had a major effect on the climbing community when first published in 1981. It's influence continues with the 2nd edition, which has identical content to the original. Very strong on historical perspective, but much of the guide information is seriously out of date, so use more recent information if you're planning on doing any of the climbs.

I love this book. Bought it in Seattle when I started climbing 15 years ago. Many of the routes are really not that crowded. I spent days on end without seeing anyone on several of the routes. WARNING though, earlier comments are right about innacuracy. Abide by topos and trust your compasses -- or bring an extra day's food for some of the north facing routes described.
