I gave this book five stars but not for the reason you may think. I am a great admirer of Grossman scholarship and his willingness to take on one of the most important issue of our time, or anytime for that matter, the issue of "killing". I purchased his latest work, "Assassination Generation" for members of my family. This book, like Grossman's other best sellers, "On Killing" and "On Combat", serve as a timely thought-provoking treaty on a subject which both scare us and fascinate us at the same time. Grossman, by the very arguments he makes against other theories on mass killings, put forth the most prevailing argument against his own video game aggression and the psychology of killing. Just as guns, medications, population density, oppression of women and parents are not the primary motivation for killing, neither is video games, Like guns, video games are just tools that serve to enhance the marksmanship capability of those determine to kill. I suspect there is no single cause that drives human-being to murder one another. I am excited by the comments of reviewers, pro and con alike. I am gratified by Grossman's courage and determination of placing both his expertise and his reputation front and center. I am waiting with great anticipation to see where this debate takes us. Thanks Lt. Col. Grossman for supplying more food for thought. i can't wait to discuss this book with family members.

I have not only purchased this book but have also seen Lt. Col Grossman's presentation on the facts and history of this dire situation. This man's credentials and expertise are second to none. He advises the very top intelligence agencies, law enforcement, and armed forces. He is the most respected man in his field I would imagine. He is a man of integrity, honesty, and compassion. He is warning us for our own sake, that of our families, children, and for our nation. His is a voice to be listened to. Thank you sir for your diligence and for sounding this much needed alarm.

Great book and a must read for anyone who has children and/or cares about keeping our children and country safe. Definite eye opener! LTC Dave Grossman is an expert on the subject.

This is a terrifying but important read for parents. I only wish there was a less jackhammer effect of the agenda - even where I agree - the real world has more nuance and parents need tools to help manage the expectations and complexities of modern life.I grew up with guns in my room as a kid and I own them now. I think there’s more to this debate than just gaming. It’s also about parental involvement and the movies kids watch which gets some coverage but not enough. That’s not his agenda here, and I agree that money and greed drive sad business outcomes.So the book is hugely thoughtful and I’m going to ask my son to read it so we can discuss the topic more. In truth, we already limited the kinds of games as I don’t like some of the game story lines anyway.I’ve read Grossmans other books too, as I’m a military person and he’s done a lot to advance our understanding of these topics.

Entire content could have been set out in a few pages. Instead it was stretched out to book length.“Video games and violent web content program impressionable boys to commit unspeakable acts of violence. We should try to prevent that.” Most people interested in this subject already knew that.The content itself was not very scholarly and consisted mostly of quoting repetitive comments from others. The principal author has some military background that he reminds you of repeatedly, but no particular scientific background of his own. The book has some value in describing the history of the problem and contains some good long term suggestions for curbing the problem. Not enough, IMHO, to justify buying the book.

Another great book from Lt. Col. David Grossman. Having taken extensive firearms training over the last 8 years, it's obvious to me that his thesis regarding first person shooter games is spot on. He provides extensive documentation for his information.

I liked how the history that's presented in this book. It a history of some horrible things, but it's very organized. Also, there's the history of impact of media (TV, movies, video games) on the mind, and what doctors have had to say about it over the years. It would make a great book study for a PTA.

Love this series of 'Introductory' topical books from 'Icon', which are so much more well done with concise and readily understood descriptives than its competitors. This particular offering is exemplary of the series as a whole, if other titles that I have read are any indication. Highly recommended.

I was hoping this might be usable for an introductory Undergraduate class on political thought, but sadly I would not recommend it, especially for use in the classroom. The text is overly simplistic, with many topics getting 1-2 pages of large text (2-3 paras/page) at most. The graphics are a mess, and it looks like someone was trying to create a political philosophy clip-art book, rather than a serious graphic novel covering an important and wide range of topics. Any text that goes from the State of Nature to the Prisoner's Dilemma to Sovereign Power in about 8 pages is not doing justice to any of the topics!

This is a great overview of various political traditions throughout history. This book is great for people new to politics as it will introduce them to the great political thinkers of all time of course further reading will be necessary in the specific ideologies and traditions one would be interested in.

Skip this one! Too many tasks are off-level. Science aims high: "CH4 = 2O2 ___O2 + 2H2O" Math aims low: "Round $1.83 to nearest tenth". Most of the writing assignments were below level as well.

I have three homeschooling kids and we really love using the Brain Quest books. I was very excited to see the new Summer Quest series because while we do take the summer off, I don't want them to go brain-dead before the next year starts. I gave them their books, put the sticker maps on the wall above their desks, and told them they would each get $25 if they could fill in their maps before the summer was over. They were all excited and got to work! The worksheets are grade-level and challenging, but not overly so. It usually takes them 5-20 minutes to complete each activity and they love getting to put a sticker on the map when they're done. To complete the whole book, it averages about 2-4 worksheets per day (not including weekends) and so it is doable. I love that it keeps their brains working and gives them something to do besides get on each other's nerves or rot in front of electronics. We'll definitely be purchasing these again next summer!

I saw a comment on another summer bridge workbook saying they prefer the brain quest workbook better, when seeing that comment I remembered enjoying the brain quest questions in school and found the information more enjoyable and easier to remember.I purchased the work book and am very pleased with it. It is set up in the form of a quest with a large map that has quests need to be accomplished to complete the level. The work book does not only give sot down and answer questions, it also gives OUTDOOR quests as well. If gives flash cards, reading lists and many other things to keep your soon to be 6th grader busy enough to keep their brain sharp through out the summer.

Using this workbook has been a revelation for myself and my daughter. I am so glad I ordered it. She doesn't pay attention to the map at the back of the book. We've agreed to a set number of pages to be completed each day, and she randomly picks what she wants to work on. There seems to be a good mix of subjects, so she's practicing and reinforcing the concepts that she learned during the school year. I've also witnessed a few "aha" moments with her. I'm interested to see how this affects her return to school next month. Also, it gives us time to interact together - as we work on it each day after dinner. An easy, cheap way to keep the kids thinking over the summer. I'll continue to use these workbooks.

its very thin and only 126 pages of work. rest is the key. we have had these in different grades in the past and kids loved them but this one is just meh. I would have rather gotten the grade 5 or 6 book.

Love this entire series! I also love that it arrived on time with no damage to the book. The book it self is awesome because after every worksheet the child completes there is a sticker to put on their map. There is also a bonus questions that has solo stickers:) i was able to use the incentives to get more work done and she loved putting the stick on herself. The one downside is the book does not nessecary teach them so I still have to explain.

I purchased this to help with the "summer slide." My daughter who isn't really all that fond of school in general LOVED this workbook! She would sit down and do 5-6 pages at a time! I would say that is a great review in itself!

This resource is very fun for students to complete during the summer before their 6th grade year. I love that it covers a variety of content areas and topics.

Here's what I don't like about Preston Sprinkle's book People to Be Loved: Why Homosexuality is Not Just an Issue: the fact that it had to be written. That's what I don't like about his major point: that it has to be made. Sprinkle takes on one of the most pressing issues in church life today, homosexuality. He argues that "If the church is ever going to solve this issue, it needs to stop seeing it as an 'issue.' Homosexuality is not an issue to be solved; it's about people who need to love and be loved."Christians have gotten worked up about legalizing gay marriage. Some talk about a homosexual agenda. They boycott Disneyworld on gay day. It has gotten to the point that some outside the church identify an anti-gay stance as the chief characteristic of the church.Sprinkle plays a little coy about his stance on the "issue" but he is assuredly within traditional Christian teaching. He's uncomfortable with the way we talk about homosexuality within and without the church. Is it the act? The inclination? Attraction? It's too simplistic to try to categorize people as "gay" or "homosexual" without caveats and explanations. He reinforces his major point, that a person can't be reduced to an issue, and that relationships should come first.I think he's right, that we should work toward a day when Christians will be "known more for their radical, otherworldly love for gay people than their stance against gay sex." We should follow the example of Jesus. He "doesn't lead with the law. He leads with love--love without footnotes."Sprinkle's treatment is solidly biblical and deeply pastoral. People to Be Loved shouldn't have been necessary. But it is. Any Christian who knows gay people in his or her community or church--and that covers just about all of us--would be well-served to spend some time reading and reflecting on Sprinkle's book.Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!

I did not want to buy this book because I was not sure I wanted to read another book by a conservative Christian on the topic of homosexuality. As a Christian married male who has same sex attraction it is hard to read books by men who have no idea what it is like to have same sex attraction try to write about it. In my opinion most say they want to love gay people and not judge but in reality they come across as very judgmental. I certainly felt that about Kevin DeYoung's book and Landon Schott's book. In fact I read DeYoung twice just to see if I missed something, I didn't, I felt judged through the whole book. There always seems to be an attitude that comes across that says I am better than you because I don't deal with the egregious abomination of homosexuality. However, I am glad to have purchased this book. Sprinkle does a great job of bringing across truth and at the same time his word choice and 'tone' is never condemning. I like that does not put down affirming authors and even states that some of their arguments are good. I don't see that in most evangelical authors. It is like they cannot say that one has a good point because then they might come across as siding on the side of pro gay theology.This is an easy book to read and very Christ like in his approach to this topic. Thank you Dr. Sprinkle.

People to Be Loved changed my life. In my quest to love my dear LGBTQ friends and family while also honoring my Christian faith, I have found hope, encouragement and freedom to love like Jesus. The book is well written, and Dr. Sprinkle slugs through mounds of historical research and Biblical exegesis. At times the reading is tedious and mentally exhausting - not unlike our human relationships when we choose the hard work of seeking to understand and truly empathizing with one another. Perhaps what I love most is Preston's posture of humility, openness to discussion, and desire for true relationship even when beliefs differ in the most sacred areas of our lives. Please read this book with the same openness, thoughtfulness and desire for truth and grace.

I thought, going into this book, that it would be crap from a young, restless, reformed guy. Even if Sprinkle fits that bill, he must number among the most intelligent and faithful of that crew. I have read many of the books on homosexuality and this is the most Biblically incisive, accessible, and pastoral that I have encountered. The only gripe that I have is that Sprinkle is a bit flip in tone throughout the book, which I was okay with but some may find off-putting considering the serious nature of the topic he addresses.Nonetheless, this is a must read for every pastor and anyone interested in what God (and thus the Bible) says on a divisive issue of our day

I've read through this book several times, most recently with a small group of Christians who are same sex attracted. A compact, lay audience friendly book on one of the more controversial topics within the church today, People to be Loved has plenty to say to both affirming and traditional Christians. Ultimately the book supports a traditional definition of marriage based on scripture, history, and discussion of some of the major voices engaged in today's debate about gay marriage, but always in a respectful and humane manner. It invites its readers to honestly explore what scripture has to say about gay relationships rather than hitting them over the head with a thumping Bible. The last third or so of the book covers in broad strokes topics related to homosexuality in a manner that encourages Christians to understand and embrace those who are same sex attracted, particularly those who want to follow Christ. The Church has often driven gays away from it; this book offers insight into how the Church, while scripturally faithful can still be welcoming.One of the things I've most appreciated about this book is how it models a Christian debate on a contentious issue still filled with humility, compassion, and a genuine desire for God's truth.

I really wish that the pictures in the book were as nice as the cover, but they look like screen shots from the original version of Thomas the train. They're just a little fuzzy. (They look better through my camera phone than they do in the book)

I've been really disappointed with the quality of a paperback copy. The paper and printing looks extremely low quality - I'd imagine my home printer would do a much better job of printing it out.The content also didn't impress at all - the pictures and the letters match are not satisfactory, low quality images, low quality texts.The little Thomas's fan enjoyed it anyway though - that's why 2 stars instead of 1.

As a teacher I thought it would be great to provide a Thomas book to help my little one learn his ABCs. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I do not like that there is often more than one letter to a page. I also take issue with some of the choices such as "M for men" when it could be "M for Mavis" or "V for valley" when it could be "V for Victor". My child knows the names of the engines by sight and it would be better to have more character names used. This is a good book as far as entertainment goes so I gave it two stars.

I was extremely disappointed when I received this book. The photos are poorly printed. It looks like I made it myself , except for my printer would have looked nicer.

The pages are flimsy and the story could be better. For example "I" is for "important" is nice but I'd prefer tangible words when reading to an infant. And "men" is for "men" without having anything women bothers me a bit even though admittedly there are very few female characters in the Thomas series. However, my son seems to like the illustrations well enough and it was very inexpensive.

The cover picture made me think this would be full of bright illustrations and the "new" Thomas and crew. However the illustrations seem to be snapshots from the old version of the show, and the colors are very muted. My son still enjoys it, I was just underwhelmed. Was not what I was expecting.

My son loves Thomas and this was a great book for me to read to him. He already knows his ABC's but it's nice to have something to reinforce what he knows and to help him remember. He's two, almost three and I wouldn't have gotten this book if he were much younger simply because it's not as sturdy as some of the others since it is paperback with thin pages. Works great for kids who are at the age that they know how to be gentle with books.

Just received this book today and my 19 month old son already Loves it!

It is true one can search online for places to see but there is nothing than a book to carry and look for places to see, especially in foreign cities where cell phone data plans are expensive.

The economy in BA has changed dramatically since this book was published and so ALL of the prices in the book are wrong - assume **everything** is two or three times more expensive (museums, restaurants, etc.) than stated in the book.

The guide was good; a few items were out of date, such as the information about purchasing tickets for theBuenos Aires metro. 10 ticket packs are no longer sold; one must buy a reloadable smart card which can be hard to accomplish at smaller stations. Otherwise we enjoyed the recommendations. about Iguazu Falls that are also included in this volume.However the book arrived water logged which was really not acceptable.

I bought my old standby, Lonely Planet guide and decided to get a second perspective since we would be in Buenos Aires for almost a month. The Fodor's has a lot of great information and advice, but seems more difficult to navigate than Lonely Planet. That could purely be because I'm familiar with its format, but I've been using Fordor's as a back up, traveling around the city with Lonely Planet.

Not as easy to navigate, nor as in depth as I had hoped.

great book with lots of good information. The walking tours, addresses, and hours were especially helpful. I just wish it was a bit smaller for easy carrying

Excellent travel guide for ARG & URU; only downside is currency & costs are dated.
