I was excited to receive my first book by Anne Bogel, creator of Modern Mrs Darcy.First, the cover is beautiful. It's a great book to display on your shelves. The book is the perfect size for reading as well. At barely over 7 inches tall it fits in your hands for plenty of non-cramping hours of enjoyed reading.Second, this is such a fun book. I devoured the book last night. If you are a reader you will find yourself shaking your head in agreement and laughing at some of the examples and stories Anne writes about here. Readers, you are not alone!Third, Anne seems to be able to pull every kind of reader into her wonderful world in this book. It's not just her world though, it is the reader's world. It does not matter if you only read non-fiction, biographies, mysteries, romance, you will feel like a friend wrote this for your personal enjoyment.Finally, if you are a lover of books about books or books about reading books you will thoroughly enjoy this. One of my favorite chapters is Life Imitates Art. Any 'You've Got Mail' fans out there?Such a lovely addition for all the bibliophiles' libraries out there.

I found myself actually looking forward to exercising as that was the time I used to listen to her podcasts and I had a lot to catch up on. Fast forward a year, I was in groupie heaven when Anne was in Franklin, Indiana three evenings ago on her book launch tour - I was in the audience !I am now the proud owner of two copies of this, both the Kindle format as well as the hard back versions. While I wanted to savor it slowly, I also had the desire to devour it so I compromised and read it over the span of three days.While the book is visually beautiful (the cover is gorgeous and an artist's rendering of her home reading space) and the size makes it a perfect "gifting" book, it short changes it to think of it that way. It was actually a gift I gave myself and loved every page. It's a collection of twenty-one essays, each one a perfectly formed gem. While the essays are highly entertaining and enjoyable to read, they are far from light, fluffy drivel. Each one resonated with me in some fundamental way. Either echoed my thoughts and feelings, stirred a desire for me, or expanded my perspective on the act of reading. Anne is sharp and funny while being incredibly warm and opening her heart to let us take a peek at her reading life.For anyone who is a fan of the blog or podcast, you will find this to be love at first read. For anyone who is a reader and not yet discovered this amazing woman, you are in for a delightful discovery.If you happen to not be a reader (or aspiring reader) yourself, but have those in your life who are -- this would be the perfect gift for them.Bottom line: Inspiring, delightful, insightful. About the Author

Deborah K. Attix, PhD, completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She joined the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (Division of Medical Psychology) and Department of Medicine (Division of Neurology) at Duke in 1995 and is now an Assistant Clinical Professor there. Dr. Attix worked with the Joseph and Kathleen Bryan Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and subsequently organized and became the Medical Director of the Clinical Neuropsychology Service at Duke University Medical Center. Her clinical work focuses on geriatric neuropsychological assessment and intervention. Dr. Attix is best known for her intervention work involving cognitive training and compensation and for psychotherapeutic techniques targeting memory, function, and mood in dementia.Kathleen A. Welsh-Bohmer, PhD, is a Professor within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (Division of Medical Psychology) at Duke University Medical Center and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Medicine (Division of Neurology). Dr. Welsh-Bohmer was recruited by Duke University Medical Center in 1987 to join the newly formed Joseph and Kathleen Bryan Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, and she currently is the Director of that center. I purchased the book because I had accepted a neuropsychology referral, being the only psychologist providing assessment in a rural area, and I did not have the training to arrive at a complete list of recommendation. Other sources helped me with the differential, but this book turned out to be an excellent resource not only for differential and prognosis, but also for making useful recommendations about such things as driving, external memory aides, family relationships, etc. The book may not be all that helpful to an expert gerontopsychologist, but I am a generalist clinical/assessment psychologist, and this text helped me arrive at meaningful recommendations. It would be very helpful to a trainee doing a gerontopsych rotation, or to a psychologist who is just starting an assessment practice, especially given the (cliche alert) aging population.

I do not like e books when it comes to school books

Awesome book, nicely written by their authors, easy reading and great balance between time invested and the knowledge it brings. A must read book for geriatric related areas.

Love the series, they are our favorite book’s to read to my daughter for bedtime. Can have fun using different voices for each of the animal characters to enhance the stories. Plus the stories are rather entertaining as well. My daughter loves it, when I read them to her.

That Anansi is such a scoundral!!After boring into one of Elephants melons, he eats himself too big to get out!! So, Anansi waits to get thing again...Only, he's bored! So he decides to amuse himself at Elephant's expense... and Hippo's...and Warthog's...Well, you get the idea.This is a cute story about a trickster spider. Janet Stevens' illustrations are, as always, excellent. Anansi is not just a regular spider. Stevens gives him expressions and a personality. You wind up laughing with Anansi's pranks. Very well done!I would definitly recommend this book. I read it to a group of young school age kids - 5-9. They could kinda tell where the story was going, but were more than willing to sit for the ride.

Kids love the pictures and the antics of the 'trickster' Anansis and how his friends respond.

Book was in excellent condition. Price was right and shipping was fast. Daughter, now grandchildren, love the Anansi stories. Thank you!

I use this book as an extension of the Junior Great Books program, which includes Anansi stories. My 2nd graders just love the stories, and the illustrations in this story are excellent. We made this book a gift to the class.

Character traits like Honor, Courage and Bravery are just a few important points the reader will get from this book. Well written. I highly recommend reading this book and sharing what was learned with family and friends. it's so honest.

The Story of Wendell Scott, was very interesting. I was completely unaware of his exstience. I enjoyed sharing his story with a group of elementary students during Black History Month.

This book is a shorter version of the four volume set of the Divine Office, which does not contain the Office of Readings, and other features. This book, for me. will be used to pray with when I cannot use the 4 volume set. It will also keep me praying the Office when my dry spells come. One complaint that I read in many of the one to four stars and the first 5 start reviews was the ART WORK. Let me offer some good advice what to do about that. I look up pictures that relate to the season, and print them to the size of the book. I then take a 9" piece of Scotch Transparent tape and split it down the middle. I put one piece on the side that will fit into the book then press it down, and close the book. Then I take the other piece and on the back side of the photo, put half on the photo and the other half on the page along the fold. This secures the photo in the book. My Liturgy of the Hours four volume has many photos and images to reflect on. May it help you in your prayers.P.S. I do this in my other Catholic books as well. I even add additional prayers and quotes from the Pope and Saints too. Also, you can add ribbons to the book. If you need to I re-bind the five ribbons to a smaller insert in the binding. If you know how to use this book already buy it. Its well made and lovely. Also, it comes with the guide for the year. So, you dont need to buy that separately.*However* If you've never followed the litany of the hours before, buy and figure out Shorter Christian Prayer first! I cannot stress this enough. I've been watching videos, reading forums, and looking through this book for a month now and barely have a general grasp of it... With the guide. Even the Shorter Christian Prayer will be a learning experience with research needed.If you want a book of small prayers for different moments and life events, and just a few slightly longer sessions, get A Beginner's Book of Prayer. It has so many prayers and thoughts in it for 5 minutes here and there and 15 minutes when the whim strikes.This books is for someone who really knows what they're doing or really wants a project. Or really doesn't care if theyre praying the prayers that others are praying on the same day & times and just wants to open randomly and read some passages mixed with prayers.

This is an excellent book for the money! You get a book that will probably be used for the rest of your life for under $30! One can get by using this for prayer instead of the lengthy and expensive 4 volume set of the LOTH.The binding is well done. It's not the best I've seen but it still is great for the price! The cover of the book is a flexible imitation leather similar to that of the 4 volume LOTH and the page edges are not gilded but rather stained with some sort of red dye. It has 5 ribbons to hold your place: green, purple, blue, yellow and red.It also comes WITH THE ST. JOSEPH'S GUIDE PAMPHLET! So, you will not need to buy that separately. The seller also conveniently gives you a couple cards of common texts that includes the invitatory psalms and Gospel canticles so that you won't need to flip back and forth as much.My only complaints that I have about the prayer book is that the artwork. I don't really find it that attractive as it includes a lot of modern, kinda weird styles, but that's more of a personal preference thing. Some people may enjoy it.Overall, great book, great price, and great tool to use for prayer and will definitely draw you closer to God! Pray it everyday!

This product explains in a very interesting manner the political context of 17th century Britain, in which Locke's two treatises were written. They were not written purely as a theoretical tract. They were actually written during revolutionary plots in which Locke was participating. He was no armchair political theorist. He was knee deep in revolutionary intrigue. This product also discusses the FIRST treatise of government -- on ecclesiastical government, which is rarely read or discussed. It's fascinating. George H. Smith did a great job in writing the script of this work on Locke and his two treatises. This product is recorded professionally by professional voice actors, with a full cast of actors. This makes it more interesting to listen to. I have listened to it probably a dozen times. Each time, I find something interesting.

While it's tough to slog through the LONG sentences and convoluted writing of a 17th century lawyer, THIS is one of the key sources that the Framers of America's Constitution used for the basis of their thinking.Without John Locke - along with others of the European Enlightenment - the "American Experiment" would likely have never happened.Worth the time and the money for anyone who wants to better understand what America was REALLY meant to be.

Good book to learn about how current western systems of government evolved into how it is today from overreaching power of monarchical forms of government over the populace that existed in Western Europe during Locke's time. Locke's concepts of limited government, basic human liberties, private property, consent of the governed and the right to revolutionize against overreaching monarchs formed the basis of revolutions in the 18th & 19th centuries to form our Western civilization's methods and forms of democracy today albeit towards an oligarchical direction. Though I do have to demure to the fact that Locke viewed a slave as having liberty as long as the slaveowner did'nt murder or ill treat the slave beyond the boundaries of the slavery contract. I chalk up this tripe viewpoint up to more a reflection on the inured society to slavery during Locke's age than a reflection on Locke himself. Essential to these antecedent revolutions after Locke was Locke's concept in the second treatise of the consent of the governed to be ruled. It formed and fomented these revolutions to form our present day western democracies. It was nice to read about the thoughts of the grandfather of today's democracies. Only issue I had was it takes a little time and effort to get used to Locke's renaissance English but I think CB Macpherson did an overall good job in editing this book.

I'm happy to have read John Locke's Second Treatise of Government. In this work, Locke argues that the purpose of government is to preserve people's life, freedom, and property, or as he writes life, "liberty," and property. The American founders were very much influenced by Locke's work here, which is why Americans' right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is guaranteed in our Declaration of Independence.In the treatise, Locke tells the story that we were once in a state of nature, where we were all free and equal. Life was good for us all except when people wanted retribution for harms done, so this state of nature deteriorated into a state of war. Then we agreed to form governments to have an outside arbitrator who could provide us protections for our lives, freedoms, and property. It's unclear if Locke really believes this account but in some passages seems to half-heartedly endorse it. At any rate, Locke thinks that a sufficient reason for joining up with a government as opposed to living in an anarchist society (a society devoid of a formal State) is that the government or State could guarantee its citizens with protections that the anarchist society could not.Locke has some interesting arguments in here about how we as human beings own our own bodies and are entitled to property because we mix our labor with natural resources and so we are also entitled to the fruits of our labor, since this labor is an extension of our bodies. But Locke puts a proviso in there, which, if took seriously, would have radical explanations. Locke thinks that we should only accept enough property so that there would be enough left for others. After he makes mention of this proviso, he doesn't really seem to take it seriously throughout the rest of the work, nor did those who adapted the work to their own purposes, like the American framers for example.
