I didn't even know she was releasing a new book until 3 days ago. Amazon emailed me, I downloaded and finished it 1 day ago. I discovered Jane through the curse of the gods series. I immediately went and read everything she had available. I haven't disliked a single one. Minor complaints here and there because I'm a whiner but nothing big enough to turn me off of her writing.This book is no different. Loved it. Good characters, good plot, good pace. And so funny as always. It's not often you find a book filled with humor. Humor is not an easy thing to convey. Most books you get one or two zingers. Jane keeps the humor going while not over-shadowing the story.The statues, especially Lucifer were just hilarious. If he gets his own spin-off series, I'll be reading that. All of the characters were funny and easy to like.Teensy complaint. Maybe not so much a complaint as it is an observation. Some areas in the beginning were leaning a bit in the information dumping direction. And I started to skim over the detailed descriptions of runes. That'll probably come back to bite me later on. Not a huge deal but some of the detailed world building and such just seemed unnecessary. I'm sure she did it for a reason though, so I'll be eating my words soon enough.I recommend this book. A little romance, a little action, delightful characters, well paced.
Charming was absolutely charming in every opposite way possible!! Lilou is not your typical heroine; she’s better because she has no idea what she’s really doing, but she goes with it and it works pretty much every time!!! What are rules?! Lilou has no idea because she plays by her own rules, she makes them up as she goes and if there are rules, she’s broken all of them, but they’re useless anyway, right? She did the impossible for Cinderella in a short time, and she bonded with the psy trees without knowing and fixed everything for all the Hollows with a cool, new rune. And let’s not forget, Arlo Demarcus, the ice cold, most powerful warlock there is!! With one look at Lilou he was enchanted and became her magic teacher and lover and guide and friend all at once! They are so perfect together. He’s so powerful and her power is probably immeasurable; they’ll do wonderful things together. I can’t wait for Disobedience!!! I’m dying to read more about Slade and Malevolent and see how Lilou, Arlo, and Sidra play into this next book in the Bastan Hollow Saga!!! If you love fairytales then you need to read this book! If you love romantic comedies with a hint of fantasy and paranormal, then you need to read this book! If you love reading books in general, then you need to read this book! Trust me, it’s that good.
OK, first and foremost, I'm a sucker for fairy tale retellings. Always have been. I love seeing the spin that authors put on classic stories and Charming did not disappoint! But it was so much more than just another retelling. I love that the story while having elements of the classic tale was fresh, the characters were fantastic and the world was unique. Lilou and Arlo are so amazing together, she is uncompromisingly her own person and everything she is and does turns his ordered world on its head. They work so well together and their chemistry is hot. Slade, Beth and the Goblins are some of my favorite supporting characters ever. I haven't laughed so much since the last time I read The Curse of the Gods series and it was glorious. Beth has to be the best Cinderella character I never knew I needed in my life. I thought at first I'd feel bad for her having to marry the prince who is an unrepentant playboy, but the way she handles him is hysterical. And the role playing Goblins are...everything, lol. I want them to show up again! I can't wait to see what Jane has in store for Slade. He was such a cool character, I really hope that his story is as epic as Charming turned out to be. I will for sure be grabbing Disobedience and binge reading the heck out of it when it comes out!
I have several of Jane Washington’s books stashed away in my kindle/bookshelf but haven’t had a chance to read any, expect when I started this beauty. What. A. Read. I’ve heard many great things about Jane’s writing and really enjoyed this book. The characters all had their own personality’s and were fleshed out perfectly, the storyline was unique and I LOVED the humour in it. There were a few places where the crudeness was a tad unnecessary and didn’t add to the story, but apart from that, it was a good read. From the reviews I’ve seen, a lot of people said they didn’t understand the relationship between Arlo and Lilou, that it was forced/no development/random/rushed, but it wasn’t like that for me. They had a connection straight away which slowly built up and everything felt natural to me. But everyone processes things differently I suppose! 4.5/5 stars.
Charming is definitely one of a kind and I can't wait for the next book in the series. This is definitely not what I was expecting. This is not a Cinderella retelling it's a story all of it's own that will captivate you from beginning to end. I was hooked and couldn't stop reading. This book will throw you some surprises and more. I honestly don't know how Jane keeps doing it. If she were a baseball player she would be a homerun hitter. I'm never disappointed when I buy one of books because I know it's going to be AMAZING.
Every time Jane Washington starts a new series I’m at the edge of my seat waiting for the awesomeness that is her story telling to begin. Charming was unique, funny, random, different and freaking funny (did I already say that?). Lilou Adler has to be one of my favorite heroines. She was unusually unusual in the very best way. I absolutely loved her sarcastic motor mouth ways. When you coupled her with the stoic icy hotness that is Arlo, there was no way that this book could be anything but amazing. I can’t wait for the next book of the series!
