This book is an excellent refresher for things that I've done in my past years. I found it very useful to go back and fortify my memory with tricks that the author has included in the book. The essay section in this edition has been greatly improved upon. The author has added new tactics to writing essays that could really help you in the long run. However, the math section is very similar to the Second Edition. I was expecting more of an in-depth explanation on these topics. Other than that, a job well done to the author for a well written book. Congratulations!

I liked it because it provided a good sample test for math along with many different lessons that are very helpful. Also, it provided an outstanding essay section which pinpoints on what you should not write in your essay and how to make it better.

Finding prep materials for the BCA entrance exam is not easy, and this book offers an excellent test prep tool for students. The material is well organized, and offers a comprehensive review of concepts requiring mastery on the BCA exam. I would definitely recommend this prep guide to students interested in attending BCA.

This was really helpful. The first few chapters are pretty basic, {everybody applying to BCA should know most or all of the first few chapters already}, but the practice problems were really useful, because as they say, practice makes perfect!

Excellent guide for my son to prepare for BCA test

This book is worth maybe $2.50 not $25. I opened the package to see a really poor quality, stretched out cover picture. That was my first hint of the quality inside and, in this case, "you can judge a book by its cover!" The pages of the book are literally like someone printed out a bunch of bad HTML and some notes and bound it together into a book. The content is just as bad...none of the challenging problems and detailed explanations I hoped for were in this book! If I could give it less than 1 star I would.I only just noticed the earlier editions (this is the 3rd) got terrible reviews. Clearly nothing much has changed. I suspect the 3rd edition exists only to get away from the poor reviews of the earlier editions. I just wish I saw those reviews earlier. Don't waste your money on this one.

Note: I bought the older edition last year and was given this updated one for free to review.I am a Math Tutor in Bergen County and this is the only book out there to help independent tutors prepare students for the Bergen Academies Exam. I was disappointed in the original version, I found it too easy in comparison to the sample questions and exam that is posted on the Bergen Academies website. However, this version has definitely been improved. The new Math test is formatted with similar level questions to the sample test that Bergen has posted. I would not use this book as your only source for prepping for the exam. However, I do believe this book is a must for any student looking to prepare for the exam. Some of the math practice drills seem easy and long, but the test doesn't allow a calculator so doing them should be a must so that students are confident in their basic skills.

This is definitely a book for those who are interested in understanding early printing processes, with a fairly thorough description of each process. Each printing technique has at least one sample image, and a most intriguing enlarged profile of the physical layers comprising a print. A fine book for anyone who is interested in photographic printing techniques or the history of photography.

I was really excited to receive this book as I have had many health struggles similar to those of the author. I have chronic fatigue and barely have enough energy to do dishes most days, so I purchased the book under the impression that the recipes would be simple and easy to prepare. I was already alcohol-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, caffeine-free, and sugar-free on my wellness journey, so I knew I wouldn't be in for the shock that some of the one-star reviewers were. In the very beginning she tells her success story and assures you that every step in the book is totally doable and enjoyable, so I dove in with high expectations. A direct quote from the book reads, "I don't want you to be overwhelmed." But a few more pages in, s*** got real. You are completely bombarded with information about what to do to basically replace every single item you own. And, to be fair, most of the stuff wasn't a surprise to me, since I'd already been on a long, slow journey of detoxing and simplifying my life, but it got to be exhausting and depressing everytime I turned the page and I felt bad for people who would be surprised by all this bad news. There wasn't a single recipe in the book that I considered to be easy. And, again, I already had many of the weirder ingredients that most people would need to go out and purchase. All the recipes were just unnecessarily complicated and time consuming. I'm sorry, I barely had the energy to shower today, so no, I will not be making my own coconut "mylk." This book is for people who are already in decent health and just want to fine tune their detox, not for someone with serious health problems looking for a solution. What sealed the two star deal for me was when she actually suggests bringing your own food to a restaurant and having them bring it out on their plates so that you can still have a social life. No. Just, no. All my friends know that when we go out I eat weird things or not at all, and it's all good, but I am not even close to being douchey enough to ask the wait staff to have the kitchen cook my own food for me that I dragged in off the street. Hell, I'd be grossed out if I witnessed a restaurant do that for someone. Isn't that some kind of health code violation? I don't know where that s***'s been, so do not bring that back into the kitchen! Neither doable nor enjoyable. "Whether you work full time, have a family of six, have been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease or other illness or just want to clean up your diet, this section is going to blow your mind." I neither work full time, nor do I have any children and I found this plan impossibly time consuming. I can't even fathom how how a working mother or father would have the time and energy to follow this book, so yes, it did blow my mind. To be clear, there is a wealth of useful information about detoxification in this book (which is why I gave it two stars instead of one), but it was a ridiculously overwhelming amount wrapped up in an awkward sized book with print that was too small. Now that I have it I will reference it from time to time and keep it around for the day when I'm hopefully well enough to "just want to clean up my diet," but the info is nothing that I haven't already found on the blogosphere for free. Save your money.***Edit as of Aug. 2017***I decided this book was a gateway drug for orthorexia and I never did reference it again. A few months ago I got rid of it.

As an avid cookbook "collector" I was excited to add this beautiful book to the collection. I usually read cookbooks from beginning to end and love when I can be engrossed by both content and great food photography. The recipes we've tried so far have been light and delicious and I'm looking forward to cooking my way through the rest of them. The recipes are all essentially vegan so I'll often pair them with small portions of grass fed beef or pastured chicken etc. As a meat eater I still enjoy doing a few plant-based cleanses throughout the year, so this book works perfectly.Be aware that the recipes are heavy on nuts and grains so if you're suffering from autoimmune conditions that require the temporary elimination of these foods to heal, you might want to look for an alternative cleanse that focuses more on high quality proteins and vegetables only i.e. GAPS, SCD or paleo. I try to limit consumption of brown rice based products (rice pastas, wraps, rice flour, etc) due to high arsenic levels and this book does have quite a few recipes that call for these products, however all are easily substituted with things like cauliflower or coconut flour wraps and quinoa or lentil pastas.I always read a lot of negative reviews on cookbooks that contain "unusual" or "hard to find" ingredients, and to that I would say open your mind, experiment with new ingredients and flavors, and don't be afraid to source ingredients online these days! We do not have to limit ourselves to the ingredients at our local grocery stores, the internet has made it very easy to bring the seemingly endless flavors of the world into our kitchens. If you're looking for a cookbook that only contains inexpensive, easy to find ingredients there are cookbooks that cater to this and shouldn't be hard to find (the Whole 30 cookbook is a good example). But opening our mind up to new ingredients within our budgets is a great way to introduce a wider variety of both flavors and nutrients to our diets. All in all I'm very happy with this purchase and I'm excited to continue cooking.

Wonderful, wonderful book. I cannot recommend highly enough. Helped me to get back on track with my health. These recipes take work, yes, there is a lot of shopping for fresh herbs and vegetables, a lot of chopping and blending and roasting, no easy outs here. No quickie protein bar, cup of coffee and on your way. This is better. So much better. After following the first week of her 21 day eating plan. I WASN'T HUNGRY. Maybe for the first time in my life, I wasn't hungry. Yes, I lost weight and that was nice. Yes, my poofy belly flattened out, shockingly so just after just one week of an eating plan. But the more important thing for me was the energy I had and the FREEDOM from the unending cravings for carbs. I just purchased another copy because my first copy is taken apart and spilled on and worn to shreds. Thank you, Amie Valpone.

Best cookbook I’ve bought. I love all the recipes. I’m finding I make way more of my own food now and eat out less.I’m excited each week to pick out my new recipes to try. It’s also been a real eye opener realizing the ingredients in what I thought were healthy foods.To be honest when I first bought the book I wasn’t committed to cutting out much. I just thought I’d try the recipes.After a month long illness that landed me in the hospital with a possible cancer diagnosis and liver injury I decided to commit. My liver has healed, my skin is clear, I have better energy when I stick with it. I’m sold. I love Clean Eating now!

I love this cookbook/ life book. So much great advice to clean out your life and tons of great recipes to streamline your diet. I’ve done this 21 day detox twice and have found both times to be an excellent reset. I use this book as a resource for diet and lifestyle tips. The recipes are great - the millet veggie burgers, the oatmeal squares, the kale Cesar salad and chickpea flour crepes are in my regular rotation.

I picked this book up for my kindle with the general idea of reading about the Apollo 13 disaster & recovery. I never considered it a total immersion page turner, but that's what it turned out to be! I actually read the book straight through one Saturday! I ended up having to go to bed only a few pages short of the end. I turned the brightness way down on my Kindle Fire HD & finished the book!There are some things that you need to know:1) The book has a lot of technical detail. Don't worry, you'll actually breeze through it. (One particular example is a "Main Bus B undervolt!" This means that the voltage (pressure) has dropped. In order to maintain the same power draw, the Amperage (volume of electrons) has to increase. This is effectively a "brownout" and the extra amperage can severely damage the equipment.)2) The ground staff were suffering the same delusions that those handling the pre-launch of the Challenger would later experience, "It's so redundant that something catastrophic just can't happen!"3) The video at the end of the Apollo 13 movie showing the real-time satellite feed of the capsule coming in on its parachutes and splashing down REALLY HAPPENED!Finally, while the book & the movie diverge in many respects, definitely re-watch the movie as it does as good a job as it possibly can in its allocated 90 minutes. It's a good movie, but the book is an absolute armchair grabbing thriller of the first magnitude!

Although very well written, don't expect what one would hope to be a human story here. This account of Apollo 13 is more a forensic examination of the accident, and ensuing emergency, told in a strictly step-by-step fashion, of just what happened aboard the spacecraft, and -- in far more detail -- how the engineers at Mission Control in Houston dealt with the seeming endless supply of challenges the multiple failures of the mission presented to them. A great research source, but not a story told for the reader looking for a warm-and-fuzzy Ron Howard movie. Also -- it was written and published shortly after the incident itself, so much of what is known now was not known then (its copyright is 1972).

I quite liked this book. I'll admit, I got it on my phone only because I had been curious about how the astronauts had used their chronographs to navigate while on their way back to Earth (a fact on which the book didn't quite deliver), but once I started actually reading it I was quite enthralled, and soon my attention was entrenched and I finished the book rather quickly, reading over dinner and over lunch breaks at work.I had watched the movie Apollo 13 years prior to reading this book, and I had watched various documentaries on the topic prior to as well as after reading this book, besides having reas juat a little bit about the accident as a schoolboy, but despite all that nothing took away interest in reading this book, so I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in how space exploration works (the basic organizing principles of team management seem to have remained unchanged, and seem to be shared by both the Americans and the Russians, judging how the two countries launch, guide, and return their space explorers -- or so my times of watching space shuttle-MIR station docking, a Hubble repair mission, and other missions would have me believe).I liked how the episode was brought to life with how tension and urgency that went into bringing back some of America's finest pilots. I also liked the details of job responsibilities were divided among the astronauts and among the various ground teams.I liked how the book detailed how the mission was flown so much from the ground, so to speak. The book has quite a run down of how NASA ordered and procured parts for various aspects of the lunar mission, and how they meticulously kept records, and how they worked so closely with their contractors and sub-contractors to quickly diagnose the problem amd to come up with quick fixes that saved the astronauts, and how they worked to make sure everything worked in the face of the unexpected. It was nice to see details that hinted at the vast scale of the emergency operations, in how they tried to muster ships literally across the oceans and far away seas in order to ensure the safe return of some of their best.On another note, I would also recommend this book to anyone who likes to believe that the moon landings were a hoax on the ground that the Apollo craft had less computing power than a modern watch (other aspects of the hoax conspiracy theorists probably cannot be addressed by this book, as these astronauts did not actually get to land on the moon) -- for this book details how the Apollo missions did their onboard computations without the bells and whistles that merely make modern computer interfaces appealing, but without adding much to what some of these modern computers can accomplish. Further, this book also details how navigation was performed by sextant in the same manner as ancient mariners -- an art lost on those armchair critics who like to feel that they can have a grasp on any information at their fingertips even while they look at information selectively). The book also details how so much of the mission's numerically intensive trajectory, timing, and other calculations were performed by actual supercomputers, that NASA had on the ground, with data provided by the Apollo astronauts and their instruments. This book also talks about how the missions were actually observable to people with ground based optical telescopes while en route to the moon (the lander and command modules were too small to be identified using optical telescopes on Earth, or Earth bound orbits once they were far enough away -- a fact that anyone can readily ascertain by learning about spatial resolution in any graduate level, or perhaps even undergraduate level, optics course).It's perhaps funny now, but was deadly serious then, that in the immediate aftermath of Apollo 13's crippling explosion the problem with the moon bound rocket was actually observed from Earth, using an amateur telescope, before the problem was actually diagnosed by NASA and the astronautts, independently -- but I should let you read more of that from the book.On the whole this book provided some good perspectives on how NASA managed a tremendously complex project, and I would recommend it even on just that ground, the same way that I would recommend other books written about highly complex projects.

Although, journalistic to the end, the citations are never compromised. Brilliant writing, to be sure, on a par with the brilliance he writes about.The stories are fascinating and there is little question that there is an abundance of genius on display here, or that technology really has changed the world. But did the people portrayed here drive the change or were they propelled along by it? The same can be asked of Napoleon, or Thomas Jefferson, or take your pick. The answer, of course, is a little of both, but there is always a tendency to over-personalize larger historical trends that are far more complex than that.And I believe the choice of writing style may have been a tacit recognition of that on Fisher’s part. Does AI take us to a new world beyond human intelligence or does it dumb down what it means to be human to fit the technological paradigm? Yes, autonomous driving cars will reduce the number of mistakes that human drivers typically make. But that’s within the context of human driving and that context will change. Will there be a whole new range of accidents that are enabled by the context of AI driving that don’t exist today?At the end of the book Fisher asks the geniuses (not used pejoratively at all) of the Valley what the future holds. And to a person there are two themes: 1. We are the masters of technology because we have a culture of disruption and innovation. 2. Technology will change the world.Fair enough. But what about context? A quick browse of any newsfeed suggests the world is imploding. And technology is certainly playing a role in that. Who is asking the larger contextual question about what that role is and how technology can become more than weaponized disruption in search of the next billion dollar payday?If the technologists don’t address the larger issues of social context they won’t have the freedom to create the wonderful technologies they envision. Nothing, not even the Valley, exists in isolation. (And, no, I am not a Luddite. I actually went to the CEO of my first corporate employer to convince him to buy me a 128k Mac, at a cost of $4,500, as I recall, over the strongest possible objections of our corporate IT department, just because I could smell change in the air and thought we should at least understand it.)This really is a brilliant book, brilliantly written, that everyone should read. I only hope that the genius outlined here finds context in the larger issues of social responsibility and progress. Technological progress without philosophical context will be hollow, at best, and destructive at worst.

For decades I’ve known some of the Silicon Valley “hackers, founders and freaks” who are the subject of “Valley of Genius”, and I’ve read plenty of stories and books about them. Adam Fisher’s book is the best yet — a thrilling first person account of dozens of stories we thought we knew. (Full disclosure: I was interviewed and have a very small role.)Fisher did about 200 interviews and then disappeared. It turned out he was doing a clever thing: instead of writing articles or a book about the innovators, he lets us tell the story. Flip through the book and you don’t find any of his writing. Instead, he’s edited the interviews so it sounds like we’re all together. Chiming in, finishing each other’s sentences and stories, adding detail, arguing and contradicting each other - describing what we dreamed, did, and saw. Valley of Genius is a perfect example of what makes oral history so compelling.It’s full of details that stories about technology often miss. For instance: our little company VPL had coined the term Virtual Reality and invented much of the technology when it was still way too expensive for any but the largest corporations. A year after the company folded, the Playstation came out with 3D graphics hardware that could replace $50,000 graphics computers for $300 — a factor of more than 100 — making vast new markets possible. But since that visionary team no longer existed, and its dreadlocked founder had moved on, the hype cycle was in remission and nobody seemed to notice. That scrappy team would have cannibalized two Playstations and had the first affordable VR system the week they came out. Instead the industry waited another 20 years. No previous VR story or book has come close to capturing that.That spirit is all through the book — people taking apart TVs and hunting down a video signal to make the first affordable electronic game or computer, or staying up all night or all week creating software — to do something that had never been done before. Sure, understanding Moore’s Law (of exponentially faster cheaper hardware), and recognizing when this creates opportunities, is one of the keys to success. But “inevitable” innovation when technology advances — that’s a myth. Valley of Genius shows it’s really about tenacious, passionate individuals who don’t wait for technology to catch up with their ideas, and are ready when it does. I've been teaching the Westminster Shorter Catechism for the past five years to the 7th and 8th graders at my church. And each student gets a copy of Pastor Lim's "Explanatory Notes". Although he briefly deals with each question, he provides accurate and deep insights as well as applications. It is suitable for morning devotions, family worship, or a classroom setting. If I want to dig a little deeper in to a specific catechism question, "The WSC with Explanatory Notes" is the first place I'll go.
