The story is set in an alternate medieval time. I found it to be clever. The resiliency of the main female protagonist is filled with intriguing events.Laced in the story is, most likely, the author's view point of religion. There are several cultures with various beliefs. A certain organized religion is portrayed as filled with power hungry individuals and hypocrisy. There is one priest that is part of that particular religion that is depicted as genuine. In the fourth book in the series, Christianity is specifically referred to as created by people. If you are wanting a series that supports a genuine belief in Christ as risen Lord, this is not the series for you.I chose to read this book because I thought it was related to other Christian fiction since it was recommended as the type of genre I read. I liked the story so much I purchased all four. I did not like the cut toward Christ as in the reference that Christianity is made up by people.I write this review so that other potential readers may choose to purchase this series with more knowledge especially for those who are looking for faith based books.
I have been waiting for this book for at least a month, I read a sample in the back another book, I usually don't read these time travel books any more because they rely to heavily on the romance, but I really enjoyed the sample so I put it in my list to keep an eye on and I am glad I did. I really enjoyed this book. I actually like the main character, she is a strong lady and unlike most of the time travel books she has not gone back in time and immediately fallen for man. I like that she knows she has to make this her life so she starts fixing things. I am looking forward to book two.
This is a 'Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court' novel. There are many such these days. The difference is that the other novels have male heroes but this one has a woman as the main character. The male heroes have typically a technical background. The heroine is a medical student (in Russia doctors are very often women) she has lived through the Yeltsin years, so kitchen gardening is something she knows about, she knows her female pasttimes and hobbies and she has a very good knowledge of chemistry. The author's knowledge of technology is rather faulty. This is not unusual. Consider Nuttall's 'Schooled in Magic' series. And like all the other authors I know of - Eric Flint's 1632-series is the best- she lets technology happen much faster than it possibly could. Another fault is that there are secondary plots which are not too well done. All in all, I intend to buy the next in the series.
I liked the way the main character found ways to "modernize" the medieval castle she found herself living in. This book is about a Russian female doctor who dies in a car accident in modern Russia, and finds herself reincarnated in the body of a dying countess from a world that is not our Earth. It is a society that is in its medieval stage similar to what our medieval history was like, even to the presence of their version of Vikings, Jews and Muslims. What I do not like about the book is it's confusing subordinate plots. If only the author stuck to the main story, it would have been truly interesting. As such, it dragged in parts. However, I am interested in finding out more about the lead character's efforts to transform her medieval household into one of the 21st century, and I would buy the next book in the series.
I love the FIRST book. It was sold for 99 cents and had around 300 pages. It was a great story and well written. However, I will NOT spend $6+ for the other books which are also around (less then) 300 pages. I don't care how good a story is, $1 per one hundred pages is my usual max that I will pay. Occasionally I will pay more per page. Rarely will I pay 2 per page. I don't purchase "name brand" authors anymore as they want $3 per page or more. The series appears to be a good story though.
The story of a time traveller changing the world they've entered has been repeated many times since the advent of A Conneticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court. The reincarnation angle has been popular lately, more often in a litrpg setting, but the fundamental story here has more in common with a time traveller than most reincarnation tales. The female MC is given a few harsh handicaps to overcome and makes a good job of settling down and addressing them systematically. Honestly, not even a genius would be this successful (or knowledgeable), but hey, it makes a good story. The characterisations are a bit weak occasionally, but this is fundamentally a time traveller action adventure with some science/civilisation development thrown in. Sometimes the story gets a bit bogged down in the details, and the POV changes can be excessive and annoying, but at least it keeps returning to the MC before I really got upset with it, and I enjoyed seeing the world bend to her will.Overall, worth a chance. Push through the first few chapters and try to hit the 30% mark. If you still aren't enjoying it by then, this story is not for you.
